Proteus Theatre is an award-winning theatre company that creates dynamic and inspiring theatre experiences for all ages. Their productions tour nationally to venues as diverse as community spaces through to large scale theatres1
Proteus Theatre has its home at the Creation Space, a community arts centre in the heart of Basingstoke, run by Proteus for everyone. The Creation Space hosts performances, events and exhibitions catering to a vast range of needs and tastes, as well as offering classes, workshops and venue hire.
One of the highlights of the Creation Space is the Proteus Café, which serves award-winning locally roasted speciality coffee from Moonroast, delicious cakes and treats from local artisan bakery The Street Bakeshop, and a selection of wines, beers and spirits during evening events. The café is open from Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 1pm, and also during events and exhibitions in the evenings or weekends.
The Proteans, the amateur theatre group of Proteus Theatre, have a long history of performing popular plays each summer at Basingstoke’s Walled Garden, the most recent being Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest in 20211. They are now planning for Summer 2023.
Proteus Theatre is also committed to supporting emerging and established artists through their artist development programme, which offers mentoring, residencies, commissions and opportunities to showcase new work.
