Officers seize cars during ANPR operation in Basingstoke

Four vehicles were seized by officers during a proactive policing operation in Basingstoke this week.

Officers from the Northern Neighbourhood Enforcement Team (NET) and Roads Policing Unit carried out an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) operation on Monday 10 February.

The ANPR cameras notified officers of any vehicles which had markers on or were not insured. Officers then responded and located the vehicles.

Five drivers were reported for summons for having no insurance and four vehicles were seized by officers.

One of the five drivers did not have a valid MOT certificate and was not wearing a seatbelt. They will all receive a fine and points on their licence.

Police Sergeant Nikki Hopkins, from the Northern NET, said: “We take motoring offences extremely seriously, which is why we planned this dedicated ANPR operation in Basingstoke.

“Our officers engaged with the local community and seized four vehicles which were not insured.

“We will continue to carry out proactive operations like this to ensure our communities are kept safe.”
