Log Burner Fire Breaks out in North Hampshire Home

Firefighters responded to a house fire in Plastow Green, North Hampshire at approximately 4am this morning.

Over 50 firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze, which engulfed the roof of the property. Crews worked diligently, employing jets and hose reels to bring the fire under control.

At its peak, the operation involved eight fire engines, two water carriers, and a range of specialised vehicles. Thanks to their coordinated efforts, the fire was contained, and the incident was gradually scaled down to four fire engines by 11:00am.

Crews made every effort to save items from the property.

An investigation into the fire has taken place and the cause was the log burner, unfortunately then spreading to the roof.

Wood burners and open fires advice:

Ensure your burner is properly installed, maintained, and regularly serviced by a qualified person.

Wood burning stoves should be placed on a fire-resistant base and not directly onto a hardwood floor or carpeted surface
Ensure you use the right type of wood or coal
The chimney or flue should be cleaned at the end of each heating season and at least once during the heating season
Use a protective fireguard
Remove ash and burnt fuel once it has cooled
